Let’s have a contest to see who can ID the 2009.

I’m guessing the bottom one, it’s wheel look better, and wheel design has gotten worse in the last 10 years.

Yeah, that’s correct - and I really like the wheels on the ‘09.

The newer interior is a very nice place to spend some time.

Wow, that’s... an old platform. And yet because it’s “retro-inspired” it doesn’t look any older/newer, at least to me.

that was purely a guess, and I’ m sad I was right. Flat faced wheels need to die. I dont care if they are more aero dynamic they look like butt.

Yeah I never sat in one, but it’s also the same as the Charger adn Durango a nd I liked both of those a lot.

There are a few cars that they work on, but generally nope - that needs to go away.

I can undersstand it on hybrid, and electrics. but not sports cars.

The shape has always been good on the chally but they refined a few details. I didn’t really like them when they came out, but I really like them now. Also, in a landscape of over-styled and fussy designs with weak “character lines” that start and stop with reckless abandon, it’s refreshing to see a strong and simple design.

First is a 2019, second one is the ‘09.

I window-shop for these, both new and used, on the internet. That’s how I know.

go buy a wrecked challenger and swap it. there only a couple thousand of them around. altho if the airbags are set off that would be a problem.

The wheels are the giveaway to my uneducated eye  - and I really prefer the 2009 wheels.

Yeah, but I happened to grab a Nissan photo of the 2018 (no 2019 yet - the redesign is finally coming I think?), and some random DOTS photo of the 2009.

I’d post two pictures of a Frontier, but I’m afraid even google couldn’t tell the difference.

At least the Sequoia has a little 2” matte bar on the grill to differentiate from older models, thank goodness!

Exactly. They've refined a good thing, no reason to throw it away and start over. Unless they can shed 1,000 pounds from it, that is.

Despite its age, I haven’t grown tired of the Challenger yet. Except for that rear quarter visibility... It’s way overdue for improvement, and I’m sure other things are too.

A new chassis that is not a cow would be nice, but this iteration is in a class of one. Not everyone wants a balls to the wall sports car. Just a big, comfy GT car that has good looks, eats up high speed miles, and isn’t terrible when you find yourself on a back road.

I owned a Magnum RT (Chally’s even fatter sister) for a while, and while it’s a very heavy car with somewhat numb steering, I was always pretty impressed with how well it controlled its weight on twisty roads. Under/oversteer were easy and predictable, and there was very little body roll. When you look at these cars on their own, they’re not bad at all. B ut when you compare them to the harder-edge performance cars, they falter. The most disappointing aspect of my Magnum was the fact that it was marketed as a muscle car and tuned like a minivan with aggressive torque management, a lazy and indecisive automatic transmission, 2.43:1 (IIRC) rear gearing, whisper-quiet exhaust, and traction control that can’t be turned off. If the stars were aligned juuuuust right it could be somewhat fast in a straight line.

Isn’t this mostly what happened with the PT cruiser too? It was popular, cool, and got relatively decent mpgs when it came out. ten years of production with no worthwile updates later, and it’s old, dated, gets poor mpgs, and has become a sign of being a square.

That is a bummer to hear about the Magnum. I wish they would bring it back with updated styling and actually make it a performance car like the other two. Scat pack (or even hellcat), with a stick, performance suspension, and big brembos. Make a cheaper E63, basically. I know the market for this is next to nothing though. Or, launch with a demon version to get the hype up. A 10 second station wagon might be what we need to get off this CUV trend lol

I got an ‘05 Titan. Looks exactly the same as a ‘16 Titan.

But I see nothing wrong with keeping a chassis around for a decade or more. It reduces development costs, reduces retooling costs, and lets the engineering behind it get completely ironed out.

The only negative is that it doesn’t give as much of a reason to buy new instead of used, though the Challenger fixes that problem by keeping used V8s expensive.
